OCMS Parents,
TESTING BEGINS TOMORROW!
Please be sure your student gets a good night's sleep, eats breakfast, and gets to school on time!
Lock those cell phones up if necessary to assure a good night's rest!
Encourage them to take their time & to NOT rush.
Thanks for your help.

OCMS Parents,
Please talk to your kids about focusing & making good choices as we prepare one more day for GA Milestones. Spring fever was hitting hard today. Please be sure they get a good night's sleep, eat breakfast, and get to school on time! Lock those cell phones up if necessary to assure a good night's rest! Thx

Mrs. Barnes’ 2nd semester 8th graders in the Careers & Leadership Class participated in mock job interviews this past week. Students were asked several job related questions and presented the interviewer with their job application. Thank you to our community members who volunteered their time to help with the interviews.

Kudos to our OCMS Family Focused Team who put on a fantastic Family FunActive!

Congratulations to our April Rotary Students of the Month:

Congratulations to these awesome students who were selected by their teachers for the Patriot Pride luncheon for the month of April for being examples of well rounded students in & out of the classroom.

OCMS Parents,
Milestones testing begins next Wednesday! Please check your calendars now & be sure to have your student here on time each day-4/23 through 4/29-for 6th and 7th grade and through 5/1 for 8th grade.
Fixing any scheduling conflicts in order to avoid test interference or make-up testing is much appreciated.

Congratulations to the middle school who was recognized last Thursday with a visit from State School Superintendent Richard Woods to present the school with the Math Leader Award. This award was presented to the middle school for their outstanding results on the Enhanced Algebra: Concepts and Connections 2023-24 End of Course Test. The Enhanced Algebra course was implemented for the first time in 8th grade last year, and recommended students took the course with teacher, Sandy Cederbaum, for high school credit. The students who took the course last year, now 9th grade students, were allowed to return to the middle school to receive their award. Just as state championship athletic teams get a police escort, the math students also received a police escort to the middle school for their meeting with the state school superintendent, and this outstanding math achievement! 💙❤️

OCMS said goodbye to another great group of 8th grade soccer players today before taking a well deserved Spring Break. See Facebook for more pics.

Earlier this week, several FCCLA members attended the State Leadership Conference in Columbus, GA where they participated in informational workshops, explored the college and career expo, and were involved in a variety of competitions. Congratulations to all of our competitors for the hard work and dedication they put in outside the classroom to prepare for these competitions.
Molly Graham earned 3rd place inn Creed Speaking.
And Ana Vu won first place in her state competition: Toys That Teach.
Again, we are proud of and want to congratulate these students for representing OCMS so well this week.

The lock-down drill at the middle school is now complete. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

OCMS is currently in a lock-down practice drill. All students and staff are safe–they are just taking the necessary steps to test our new safety system and procedures.
At this time, OCMS students can not check-in or check-out. We will notify parents as soon as the lock-down drill is over.

Congratulations to these awesome students who were selected by their teachers for the Patriot Pride luncheon for the month of March for being examples of well rounded students in & out of the classroom.

Our ELL classes celebrated International Food Day. Each student prepared and brought in a food item that represented their home country. We enjoyed a variety of delicious foods like tamales, pupusas, fried rice, gorditas, spring rolls, pound cake, conchas, frutas con crema, and much more. Thank you to the parents for your support in supplying the food.

Congratulations to these 3rd quarter Patriot Reward Card drawing winners! OCMS students earn a PRC Card after each quarter based on parameters related to grades & behavior. All students who receive a PRC card are eligible for the drawings at the end of the quarter.

Our 8th grade Careers and Leadership class has been talking about the importance of being a good leader and working together as a team. This week, they practiced these skills in this cup stacking activity. During several rounds of this activity, they had guidelines to follow like no talking, only the leader could talk, everyone communicating, and coming up with their own strategy. Some groups were more successful than others. During the reflection time, students agreed that it is important to have good leadership qualities and have good communication skills.

Mrs. Blackwell's 8th grade Science class engaged in an electricity lab where they created series and parallel circuits and electromagnets.
The students had to focus on the path of current to ensure that the circuits would work properly. I think we have some future electricians here.

The OCMS Faculty & Staff recently had a competition. Ms. Serrian won the soup category with her Lasagna Soup. Ms. Throne won the chili cook off with her White Chicken Chili. Congrats to these excellent culinary experts!

Come out and support our high school baseball team as they play at UGA's Foley Field on Tuesday night. Admission is free so bring the whole family!
