Oglethorpe County School System will once again be conducting a residency audit for grades three, six and nine, at the beginning of the school year. In other words, students entering 3rd grade, 6th grade, and 9th grade will need to show proof of residency prior to school starting in August in order to be scheduled into a homeroom and scheduled for classes. Traditionally, we have only collected proof of residency when a student first enrolled either in kindergarten or when they transferred into our school system. In order to be good stewards of our taxpayers’ money, we need to verify proof of residency more than once in a student’s 13 years in the school system. We apologize in advance for this slight inconvenience, but as educating students has gotten more expensive, it is imperative that our tax dollars remain focused on Oglethorpe residents or those who pay tuition. Proof of residency documents that can be accepted are the following: • Mortgage statement, or • Current lease/rental agreement (will be verified), or • Current utility bill (gas, water, or electric only) If you do not have any of the above methods to prove your residency, please call 706-743-8128 after July 1, to schedule an appointment to review the residency affidavit and complete the necessary paperwork. The residency affidavit is valid for one year only. The proof of residency document can be dropped off at your child’s school any time before June 10th, or after July 15, or at our central office at 735 Athens Road, Lexington, anytime between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, or click the link to enter your information and upload a copy of your proof of residency. 3rd grade: https://www.oglethorpe.k12.ga.us/forms/3rd-grade-proof-of-residency-submission-2025-26 6th grade: https://www.oglethorpe.k12.ga.us/forms/6th-grade-proof-of-residency-submission-202526 9th grade: https://www.oglethorpe.k12.ga.us/forms/9th-grade-proof-of-resideny-submission-202526 If you have students in more than one grade, please click the link for each child’s grade level, as the forms will be directed to different schools. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Camp Green Lake (OCMS Room 606 Edition) Ms. E. Moncrief's class had campers trading in their books for new uniforms, earning camp nicknames, & digging tiny holes with mini shovels. They wrapped up a favorite unit with some deep digs comparing and contrasting Louis Sachar's Holes novel and movie. Great discussions, even better memories made! Thanks to Ms. E Moncrief for a great room transformation!

Greetings OCMS Parents, The newest TikTok trend sweeping the nation challenges kids to short out their school devices by sticking pieces of metal in various ports to short them out & possibly cause a fire. Please have a talk with your student that this will cost them $300+ to replace the device, will result in school consequences, & can result in law enforcement being involved should it cause a school disruption. Thanks for your help with this. Only 12 more days of school!!!

We appreciate our school nurses today and every day and the part they play in academic success! Thank you!!! HISTORY OF SCHOOL NURSE DAY On October 1, 1902, the first school nurse, Linda Richards, was employed to prevent absenteeism by consulting with kids and families regarding healthcare requirements related to infectious diseases. She led the adoption of evidence-based nursing practice across the city after a month of effective nursing operations in New York City schools. Since then, school nurses have continued to control infectious diseases, but their function has grown and become more diverse. The health of a student is inextricably linked to their ability to learn. Unaddressed health care needs make it difficult for children to participate in the learning system. The school nurse helps students succeed by providing healthcare to all students in the school context through examination, treatment, and follow-up. The school nurse helps children with their physical, psychological, emotional, and social health requirements as well as their academic success. According to the National Survey of Children with Special Healthcare Needs, 11.2 million children in the United States are at risk of developing persistent physical, cognitive, social, or emotional problems. These students may require school-based health assistance, which school nurses can provide. National School Nurse Day has been observed since 1972 to honor school nurses. National School Nurse Day was created to raise awareness about the importance of school nurses in the educational setting.

Check Facebook for more pics. Post 2 of 2 The 2025 8th Grade After Party is in the books. What a great crew to spend a Friday night with. Despite a bit of rain that cut out some of the activities, we never heard a complaint from anyone in the group. And during the relays when a some 8th grade groups are "too cool for school" and have to be begged to participate, these guys were locked in and fully involved! Just zoom in on the smiles and faces in these pictures. There is no doubt they were having fun. Only two and three more weeks of middle school for these guys!

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5th - 9th. What a great time to recognize the heart and soul of our schools, the educators who inspire, nurture, and guide our students every day. Their dedication goes far beyond the classroom, shaping futures and changing lives. Let’s take this week to show our gratitude for the patience, passion, and perseverance teachers bring to their work. A simple "thank you" can mean the world, let’s make sure they feel seen and celebrated! Is there an Oglethorpe educator who has inspired or had a significant impact on you or your child? Let them know by leaving a comment on our social media channels, telling how they impacted you or your child.
