Pre-K Families will need to attend Orientation at 3:30pm on either July 29th or July 30th!

We're getting ready for the new school year!

The Oglethorpe County School System is providing the majority of school supplies for students this year. There are some additional items that will need to be purchased by parents. Please look over the list to see what supplies are needed!

Just a reminder that students entering 3rd grade, 6th grade, and 9th grade must provide an updated proof of residency. So far, 30% of 3rd graders, 29% of 6th graders, and 23% of 9th graders have completed this task! You can upload your documentation by clicking on the following links, or by dropping it off at central office, or at the school after July 14th.
3rd Grade: https://tinyurl.com/sx5cabu8
6th Grade: https://tinyurl.com/3946ebka
9th Grade: https://tinyurl.com/u5p7wtrn
The documents that will be accepted are:
Mortgage Statement, Current Lease/Rental Agreement (will be verified), Current Utility Bill (gas, water, or electric only).
If you do not have any of the above documents, you will need to schedule a residency affidavit meeting with the superintendent.
Please click this link to sign up for a meeting: https://tinyurl.com/55pxsjjf or call the central office at 706-743-8128.
Just some points of clarification: The documentation is for PROOF OF RESIDENCY. It needs to reflect where the student will be “laying down their head to rest”. In other words, if you own property in Oglethorpe, but you live in another county, the other county is your residence and where you would enroll in school! Please note - students in grades 3, 6 and 9 who do not have their verification completed will not be able to get their schedule at open house. Please plan ahead and use the next few weeks to get the documentation taken care of. If you upload your documentation, you will only receive a call if you need to provide additional information.

Oglethorpe County School System will once again be conducting a residency audit for grades three, six and nine, at the beginning of the school year. In other words, students entering 3rd grade, 6th grade, and 9th grade will need to show proof of residency prior to school starting in August in order to be scheduled into a homeroom and scheduled for classes.
Traditionally, we have only collected proof of residency when a student first enrolled either in kindergarten or when they transferred into our school system. In order to be good stewards of our taxpayers’ money, we need to verify proof of residency more than once in a student’s 13 years in the school system. We apologize in advance for this slight inconvenience, but as educating students has gotten more expensive, it is imperative that our tax dollars remain focused on Oglethorpe residents or those who pay tuition.
Proof of residency documents that can be accepted are the following:
• Mortgage statement, or
• Current lease/rental agreement (will be verified), or
• Current utility bill (gas, water, or electric only)
If you do not have any of the above methods to prove your residency, please call 706-743-8128 after July 1, to schedule an appointment to review the residency affidavit and complete the necessary paperwork. The residency affidavit is valid for one year only.
The proof of residency document can be dropped off at your child’s school any time before June 10th, or after July 15, or at our central office at 735 Athens Road, Lexington, anytime between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, or click the link to enter your information and upload a copy of your proof of residency.

Last Day of School

Honors Days at OCES!

Field Days this week!

This message is to alert you to the newest TikTok trend sweeping the nation that challenges kids to short out their school devices by sticking pieces of metal in various ports to short them out & possibly cause a fire.
Please have a talk with your student that this will cost them $300+ to replace the device, will result in school consequences, & can result in law enforcement being involved should it cause a school disruption. Thanks for your help with this.

We appreciate our school nurses today and every day and the part they play in academic success! Thank you!!!
HISTORY OF SCHOOL NURSE DAY
On October 1, 1902, the first school nurse, Linda Richards, was employed to prevent absenteeism by consulting with kids and families regarding healthcare requirements related to infectious diseases.
She led the adoption of evidence-based nursing practice across the city after a month of effective nursing operations in New York City schools. Since then, school nurses have continued to control infectious diseases, but their function has grown and become more diverse.
The health of a student is inextricably linked to their ability to learn. Unaddressed health care needs make it difficult for children to participate in the learning system. The school nurse helps students succeed by providing healthcare to all students in the school context through examination, treatment, and follow-up. The school nurse helps children with their physical, psychological, emotional, and social health requirements as well as their academic success.
According to the National Survey of Children with Special Healthcare Needs, 11.2 million children in the United States are at risk of developing persistent physical, cognitive, social, or emotional problems. These students may require school-based health assistance, which school nurses can provide.
National School Nurse Day has been observed since 1972 to honor school nurses. National School Nurse Day was created to raise awareness about the importance of school nurses in the educational setting.

Let’s take this week to show our gratitude for the patience, passion, and perseverance teachers bring to their work. A simple "thank you" can mean the world, let’s make sure they feel seen and celebrated!
Is there an Oglethorpe educator who has inspired or had a significant impact on you or your child? Let them know by leaving a comment on our social media channels, telling how they impacted you or your child.

The lock-down drill at the middle school is now complete. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

OCMS is currently in a lock-down practice drill. All students and staff are safe–they are just taking the necessary steps to test our new safety system and procedures.
At this time, OCMS students can not check-in or check-out. We will notify parents as soon as the lock-down drill is over.
