The Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers in Oglethorpe County

After School Patriots Involved in Readiness and Enrichment: A.S.P.I.R.E.

The Oglethorpe County School System and the Oglethorpe County Economic Authority partner to provide a Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) for two sites. The sites serve two Title I schools, grades K-5.  The 21st CCLC programs seeks to provide a high-quality afterschool program, which operates outside of the regular school day hours for 12 hours per week. This grant allows us to operate an after-school program at OCPS and OCES at no cost to you. This program operates Monday-Thursday from 3:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.

This program aligns with the regular school day and utilizes our community partners to assure that resources are in place and capitalized on.  The first goal of A.S.P.I.R.E. is for regularly participating students (i.e., students attending at least 30 days of the after-school program), to improve their academic achievement in reading and math.  The second goal of A.S.P.I.R.E. recognizes student engagement as an essential component of academic success.  Specifically, our second goal strives to have our regularly participating students (i.e., students attending at least 30 days of the after-school program), improve their overall classroom engagement as evidenced by increased daily attendance and increased completion rate of class and homework assignments.  Our third and final goal of A.S.P.I.R.E. focuses on engaging more parents/guardians in their child’s education by way of them participating in literacy and educational activities.

The goals and effectiveness of the A.S.P.I.R.E. program are measured by the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), report cards, classroom grades, progress reports, homework completion, class participation, behavior changes, PowerSchool, and student, teacher, & parent feedback.
